Amritsar, April 20 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The Department of Political Science of Guru Nanak Dev University organised a lecture by Prof. Iqbal Singh (retired from University of Delhi, Delhi) on topic of “Globalisation: Changing Left and Right Perspective”. Prof. Iqbal Singh in his lecture highlighted the changes that have taken place in the Left and Liberal perspective of globalisation. He argued that the populations of North America and Western Europe have benefited most from the globalisation as also the Chinese urban people. The pace of globalisation has increased after coming into power of Margaret Thatcher in 1979 as Prime Minister of England and Ronald Reagan in 1980 as the President of the USA. Similarly, international trade and flow of capital have massively grown after the collapse of the USSR and entry of the China in the WTO. He argued that presently policies of the President Donald Trump in the USA and the UK, in the wake of Brexit, seem to be anti-globalisation. Prof. Iqbal revealed that in the contemporary times, China appears to be a torch bearer of free trade in the world. Prof. Jagrup Singh Sekhon, head Department of Political Science, welcomed Prof. Iqbal Singh. The lecture was well-attended by students, faculty, researchers of the various departments of the university.
