Amritsar, Jan. 3 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Council of Indian Academy of Sciences in its meeting held recently
recommended the election of Prof. Manoj Kumar from Department of Chemistry of the Guru Nanak Dev University to the Fellowship of Academy.
Prof. Manoj Kumar is first person of the University in last thirty years to get this fellowship of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru. Earlier Prof. S.S. Sandhu and Prof. Harjit Singh from the Department of Chemistry were elected to the Fellowship of Indian Academy of Sciences, Bengaluru.
Prof. Manoj Kumar works in the area of supramolecular chemistry and has designed, synthesized and evaluated biological applications of a number of fluorogenic probes selective for soft metal ions, anions, nitroaromatic compounds, reactive oxygen/sulphur species, NO and Human Serum Albumin (HSA). He also reported a probe which could distinguish between cancer cells, normal cells and apoptotic cells.
Prof. Manoj Kumar has published 173 research papers in international journals of high impact factor. The h-index of his publications is 37 with nearly four thousand citations. Prof. Manoj Kumar has delivered many invited talks/lectures in different national and international conferences in India and abroad. Prof. Manoj Kumar owes this achievement to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar and his research team.
