Amritsar, Feb. 3 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Punjab & Chandigarh College Teachers Union (P.C.C.T.U) the sole
organization of the teachers working in Government aided and unaided affiliated colleges, which shoulders the responsibility to cater higher education to more than 80% of the students acquiring higher education in the state was compelled to take the path of agitation by dictatorial, anti-higher education and anti-teacher attitude of GNDU. Addressing the rally of the teachers from the colleges under GNDU, in front of the university today, General Secretary, Dr. Vinay Sophat said that The U.G.C has also stipulated that clean nine-week vacation should be provided to the teachers working in these colleges. However, most of the vacations get consumed in the invigilation duties which are assigned to the teachers during the vacations. It was requested many times that for the hassle-free and smooth conduct of examinations, the vacations should start after the completion of examinations. But university paid no heed to our request rather they are not ready even compensate duties during these vacations either by compensatory leaves or earned leaves in lieu of exam duties performed during vacations.
He expressed shock that the teachers working in the D.A.V colleges are performing all sort of duties assigned by the University, but University is denying approval to them. Many of the colleges have not still implemented University directions and regulations e.g CPF on total salary, CPF to be deposited with PF commissioner in many colleges principals are not forwarding the cases of career advancement schemes (CAS) to university for scrutiny and selection, deliberate delay in implementing pay scales and then not disbursing arrears. In these matters major sufferers are teachers working on unaided posts. But the university is not ensuring that the orders passed by it are implemented in all the colleges. The rally was also addressed by Area Secretary GNDU Dr. Tarsem Singh, District President, Amritsar Dr. Malkiat Singh, District President Kapurthala Dr. Harbans Singh, District President Gurdaspur Dr. Charanjit Singh and others. PCCTU will again hold rally on 19th February when the university is going to organize convocation if the issues were not resolved. Dr. Gurdas Singh Sekhon conducted the stage and raised slogan against the miss management of GNDU. Dr. BB Yadav, Dr, Shelly Jaggi and Dr. Rupinder Kaur Convenor women wing also addressed the rally.
