New Delhi, Aug. 11 ( Amrit Lal Manan)-  In a resolution passed by the executive body of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) today, a demand was raised that highest civilian honour of Bharat Ratna be conferred on two Sikhs, who prominently figure in the history of India – Shaheed Bhagat Singh and Master Tara Singh. DSGMC president Mr. Manjit Singh G.K. introduced the resolution in the executive body of the Gurdwara Committee, and its general secretary Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa second it. Subsequent to that, the resolution was unanimously passed by the executive committee. The DSGMC would now send the resolution to the centre for implementation. “Both the Sikh personalities have played vital role in changing the face of our country, had they not born, India would not have been the same,” said Mr. G.K. while presenting the resolution, adding that both the personalities inspire a diaspora of population living in India and abroad, and a large number of institutions world-wide are connected to these two personalities. “These personalities may not need this recognition, but as a religious body of Sikhs, we feel it’s our duty seeking highest honour for both the personalities who had faith in the Sikh religion and born in the Sikh family,” adds Mr. G.K. asking the centre to implement the resolution this year. Shaheed Bhagat Singh, a revolutionary, laid his life at a young age of 23, for the freedom of India. While Master Tara Singh who remained on political scene of the Akali Dal for four decades rejected three nation theory at the time of independence to India, and favoured Sikhs to be the part of India and played vital role in India’s freedom struggle.

“Master Tara Singh’s truthfulness, honesty, integrity and purity of character would always be remembered,” said Mr. G.K. adding that Masterji actively participated in the Sikh Gurdwara Reforms Movement. He was the first General Secretary of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and later became its President and also remained president of the Akali Dal.
