5-Day Science Camp Inspire Inaugurated at DAV College

Amritsar, Oct. 4 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Department of Sciences, DAV College inaugurated 5-Day DST sponsored PPN0410201807science camp INSPIRE (Innovation in Science Pursuit for Inspired Research). This camp is organized under Inspire Scheme of Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, New Delhi.  Approximately 230 students from 25 different schools from various districts of Punjab came to participate in the event. Mr Sudershan Kapoor, Chairman LMC poised the event with his presence in this auspicious occasion. Deputy Commissioner Kamal deep Singh Sangha was the chief guest during the event.  Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar extended floral welcome to the chief guest. The event started with the lightening of Deepshikha by the all the dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Co-ordinator of the Camp delivered a welcome message and said that the world of science is an exciting area in which we can work, learn and study various aspects of life. The objectives of INSPIRE internship camp is to reveal the joys of innovation to the talented youth of the country and to motivate them to pursue higher education in science and make a career in Research and development. While speaking on the occasion, Kamal deep Singh Sangha said that such science camps create science centric learning environment among students which helps to enhance scientific temperament among young scientists. Speaking on the occasion Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar said that this programme is aimed at training and orienting young minds in the fantastic world of sciences. He added that during this five day residential camp, focus will be on helping students open up their minds and encourage their innovations, no matter how trivial and primitive these may be. To fuel their imagination and bringing out the scientists in them, are the main objectives behind organizing this kumbh of science. Mr Sudershan Kapoor, Member LMC also addressed the audience with his words of wisdom. He said that learning leads to inquisitiveness and success.  The event hosted a series of lectures. During the first session, Dr Krishnamoorty Kannan, Professor Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi delivered inspirational talk about life of scientist. He stressed upon importance of inspiration in life that one should always have inspiration so that he can achieve success in his life.

            The event moved on with full jest and zeal and with a series of different intellectual sessions by prominent scholars. During the second Session, Dr Jaswinder Singh, State &National Awardee    (DST) lecturer physics, Govt. Sen Sec School, Shekhupur, Patiala gave experimental demonstrations on Man with his personal cars and lab-on-wheels. He briefed students that how he has converted his personal car into a mobile laboratory which is available on call for schools to demonstrate over 100 practical experiments in field of science and mathematics. His main focus is to develop and make science interesting for the students. He also talked about newtons law, Archimedes’ principle, Bernoulli’s principle, concept of sound and pressure, the formation of tables with new methods. His main focus was to help students to learn how waste products can be used in scientific experiments.

            During the third session, Prof. R.K Jha DAV College gave lecture on the topic “Glimpses of Vedic Mathematics”. He said that quick Math is perfect for students to improve their all round mathematics ability.

            Dr. Rupinder Kaur Programme Coordinator, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Assistant Programme Coordinator, Dr. Daizy Sharma, Prof .R.K Jha  Dr. Rajni Khanna, Dr. Anita Mahajan, Prof. Sameer Kalia, Dr. Vikas Gupta were also present on the occasion.
