District Red Cross Branch organized Blood Donation Camp

Amritsar, Oct. 10 (Punjab Post Bureau) – India has an annual requirement of 10 million units of blood while the availability is only 8 million units. Government, Non Government Organizations and Corporate Sector have been striving hard to create awareness about blood donation to bridge the gap between demand and supply. `

Kamaldeep Singh Sangha, I.A.S, Deputy Commissioner-Cum- President, Indian Red Cross Society District Branch Amritsar has initiated to create mass awareness campaign through Red Cross Branch, Amritsar so that sufficient availability of blood be made for the suffering humanity. More and more blood donation camps are organized to meet the shortage of blood. It was decided to hold blood donation camps to collect more bloods.  For the purpose, District Red Cross Branch Amritsar organized Blood Donation Camp at Red Cross Bhawan Amritsar. Shivraj Singh Bal, Assistant Commissioner (G) Amritsar inaugurated the camp. He encouraged the donors and requested them to keep the same spirit in future also. Keeping in view the shortage of blood he mentioned that we have two Government Blood Banks at Guru Nanak Dev Hospital and at Civil Hospital, Amritsar. Both the blood banks have daily consumption about 150 units in G.N.D. Hospital and 15-20 units in Civil Hospital respectively. 

In his message, he told the importance of the blood and said Blood Donation is a great donation. It is to donate not to shed. He also appealed to the people to donate their blood generously to make the noble cause a grand success. Today, 9^th Oct 2018 50 donors donated their blood to bridge the gap in between demand and supply in the above said camp.

To make awareness campaign a great success for donating blood voluntarily, Smt. Alka, P.C.S, Assistant Commissioner(G)-Cum-Honorary Secretary, Red Cross put her earnest efforts to motivate the officers of various departments to donate blood for the noble cause.
