489 Cases settled from 603 cases taken up involving Rs. 3,33,90,443/- in Lok Adalat

Amritsar, Aug. 30 (Punjab Post Bureau)- District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar under the able guidance of Sh. Gurbir Singh, District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar today organized the monthly Lok Adalat in the District Court Complex. In order to organize this monthly Lok Adalat 10 benches were constituted for taking up matters for disposal of cases. All type of cases such as civil, criminal compoundable cases, matrimonial cases, rent cases, recovery matters including cheque bouncing cases, traffic challans etc. were taken up for disposal in this monthly Lok Adalat. In total 603 cases were taken up in the Lok Adalat out of which 489 cases were settled by way of amicable settlement involving amount of Rs. 3,33,90,443/-.

Giving details Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar said that the monthly Lok Adalats are being organized in the courts all over Punjab as per the directions of Punjab Legal Services Authority, Chandigarh. In these Lok Adalats all type of civil cases, rent cases, matrimonial cases, cheque bouncing cases, accident claim cases etc. and criminal compoundable cases are taken up for disposal by way of amicable settlement between the parties. Any person having a pending case in the Court can make a request to the concerned Court or can approach the office of Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar at Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre, District Court Complex, Amritsar. He further said that settlement of cases through Lok Adalat provide speedy disposal of cases and in case a matter is settled in Lok Adalat the entire court fee paid by the party is refunded. Moreover the award of the Lok Adalat is deemed to be a decree of civil court and is final as no appeal can be filed against the same. Not only pending cases are taken up in the Lok Adalat but the pre-litigative cases can also be taken up in the Lok Adalat.

Sh. Gurbir Singh, Learned District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Amritsar said settlement of cases through Lok Adalat is one of the recognized mode of alternative dispute resolution system as per Section 89 of Code of Civil Procedure and general public should come forward for settlement of their cases through Lok Adalat as the settlement through Lok Adalat provides speedy, effective and final disposal of the case.
