Total Arterial Bypass Surgery successfully performed by Dr. Bhawna Singh
Amritsar, Jan. 23 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A young patient of 49 Yrs age came to Amandeep Medicity with complaints 
of breathlessness on effort along with occasional chest pain.He was suffering from excruciating Chest Pain while breathing.
On examining this this patient Dr. Yadvinder Singh, Head & Director, Cardiology Department, Amandeep Medicity, advised him Coronary Angiography.Angiography revealed that the patient was having critical TVD (Triple Vessel Disease).
Dr. Bhawna Singh HOD Cardiac & Thoracic Vascular Surgery Department, evaluated the patient and CABG (Bypass Surgery) was planned but considering young age (49 Yrs) of the patient,Total Arterial Revascularization was planned because longevity of an Arterial Graft is much more than a venous graft. Arterial grafts are much more superior and longer lasting as compared to venous grafts. LIMA (Left Internal Mammary Artery) and Radial Artery have more than 95% Patency Rate for more than 25 Yrs. This was the reason of this tough exercise. The mission of this surgery was to gift this patient a disease-free life time survival.
Dr. Bhawna Singh performed beating heart surgery with 5 Grafts using LIMA (Left Internal Mammary Artery) in a sequential manner. Left Radial Artery was also used to bypass OM1 Artery (Obtuse Marginal Artery) in a sequential manner. Bypass Surgeryusing Arterial Grafts for multiple targets in a sequential manner is technically challenging and time consuming. It requires a lot of skills, dedication and patient centric approach on the part of surgeon and team with no scope of slightest error.
Patient recovered very well and even his respiratory support was also removed just within two hours after surgery. The patient is absolutely stable now and is being discharged on 6th postoperative day.
