Amritsar, Sept. 6 (Punjab Post Bureau) – It is a moment worth watching when Bengali Artists performed “Jhumur” folk songs in the Dharam Singh Auditorium of Indian Academy of Fine Arts. The quawalas led by Javed Quawal Group of Malerkotla presented very melodious Qawalis. Large number of Audience enjoyed the folk dances & Qawalis Mr. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina welcomed the artists and emphasises the need to have inter-state exchanges of artist groups that leads to promote Cultural Heritage, love and affection in the society Dr. S. S. Chhina, Convener of the programme thanked the artists from Bengal. Mrs. Sarla Bubber, Dr. P. S. Grover Mr. A. S. Chamak, Mr. Shivdev Singh and others were among the audience.
Since 2004 bangalanatak dot com working with 3200 folk artists of Bengal on 6 different dying art forms of 6 districts, Today they presented art form of “Jhumur” song and dance of purulia led by Suman Dass. This Jhumur song and dances pertain to the joys, Sorrows, activities and festivals of the rural and tribal people of the Chotanagpur/Manbhum region. Mr. Dharinder Bhatnagar, Secretary General, UNESCO Clubs in India and Mrs. Madhura Dutta Programme officer of UNESCO were among the audience.
