Amandeep Hospt. celebrated ‘National Nutrition Week’

Amritsar, Sept. 6 (Punjab Post Bureau)- In today’s lifestyle of eating burgers, Pizzas, noodles etc, Local Amandeep Hospital took a first significant step to bring awareness about healthy eating and balanced diet especially amongst the young generation and wean them away from the ills of junk food towards attractive, tasty, nutritious diets. Celebrating “National Nutrition Week” In a bid to direct youngsters towards better eating habits and good nutritious food, an open contest in poster making and cooking competition on the theme of ‘balanced diet’ were organized at Amandeep OPD Clinics held. As many as 21 students of seven educational institute participated in the competitions which included on-the-spot poster making and prepared dishes.

Ms Sunnia of SR Government College, bagged prizes in both the competitions with a second prize in Cooking competition and third prize in poster making. In the cooking competitions Tripjot Kaur of SR Government College won the first prize while Ms Ms Sunnia of SR Government College won the second position. The third position went to Rohit of Amritsar college of Hotel management and Technology. Students had prepared Betroot Biryani, Channa Stuffed Idle & Sambar, Nutri palak with macroni salad, Soya granules, Dahi Shorba Soup, Fat free dal and Pumpkin Soya Soup.

In the poster making competition Sandeep Kaur and Mandeep Kaur both of Khalsa College for Women won the first and second prize while Sunnia of SR Government college won the third position .

Students from the city’s top seven colleges participated in the competitions which included Amritsar Engineering college, Khalsa college for women, Swami Satyanand College of management, Hindu Sabha College, BBK DAV college for Women, Global Institute of Management and Saroop Rani Govt. College for Women. Earlier Dr. Neeta Goenka, organizer and Nutritionist & Clinical Dietician of Amandeep hospital, addressing the students stated, “Sedentary lifestyle coupled with decreasing physical activity amongst youngsters hooked on internet, mobiles and TV, even the rich Punjabi diets are no more healthy. Added to this is today’s era of junk food leading to high incidence of health problems along with obesity,” stated Ms Nivedita Kapoor Nutritionist and CDPO and Mrs Ravneet Kaur were the judges in Cooking while the chief guest on the occasion was Dr Kamaldeep Sharma, a dental surgeon. The guests and participants were warmly welcomed by Dr Amandeep Kaur Director of the local hospital.
