“Partition 1947: Voices of the People” organized at DAV College

Amritsar, February 28 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Seminar on “Partition 1947: Voices of the People” in collaboration with 1947 Partition Archive, University of California, Berkeley.

            In the Inaugural Session, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Principal DAV College and Shilpi Seth, Head PG Dept of History welcomed key note speaker, Dr Sukhdev Singh Sohal, Prof.( Retd.)  Department  of History , GNDU and Director Gadar Chair,  Chief Guest  Dr Guneeta Bhalla, Director and Founder 1947 Partition Archive, Guest of Honour Sh Malkit Singh Ghumman, Associate Member 1947 Partition Archive, Advocate Sudarshan Kapoor  and Dr Lakhanpal, Chairman and Member Local Managing Committee, New Delhi during the event.

Principal, Dr. Rajesh Kumar gave the welcoming address to all the guests present. While stressing upon importance for organizing such events, he said such intellectual seminars helps scholars and students to understand the actual partition situation and views of people on such critical issues.

            While addressing the guest, Prof Shilpi Seth, Head, PG department of History highlighted the main purpose behind organizing such seminars is to enlighten the scholars and students about importance and impact of The Partition of India in 1947. She stressed on the fact that talking on such issues gives us a clear glance of circumstances of the migrations.

 While speaking on occasion, Dr. Guneeta Bhalla congratulated the department for their efforts to organize such seminars. While briefing about the topic she said that partition of India1947 resulted in the largest mass-migration of people in the world till date. In recent years, testimonies of these migrations from those who witnessed the event have begun to emerge, resulting in a better understanding of the Partition and such events also help us to learn importance of family, education, the plight of refugees, and the most importantly, the notion of hope.

             The event was conducted in two technical sessions. During the event, Research papers based on partition topic were presented by various Research Scholars.

            In the First Technical Session, Dr Joginder Singh, Head (Retd), Department of History, GNDU, Former, Director Namdhari Chair, GNDU. Director Bhai Veer Singh Sahit Sadan, Amritsar and Dr. Baljit Singh, Head, PG Department of History, Gurusar Sudar Khalsa College, Ludhiana were the Chairpersons.

            In the Second Technical Session, Dr. Manjinder Singh, Astt. Prof . Punjabi School Studies, GNDU Asr and Dr. Manjinder Singh, Astt. Prof. Punjabi School Studies GNDU were the Chairpersons during the event.

            Valedictory Session was conducted by Dr Raj Kumar Hans, Prof. (Retd.), Deptt of History, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Gujarat and Vote of thanks was done by Dr Drshandeep Arora, Vice Principal &Head deptt of Punjabi, DAV College Amritsar.

            Prof. Shilpi Seth, Dr. Babusha Maingi, Prof. Munish, Prof. Amandeep Kaur and Megha Singhal were also present during the occasion.
