Amritsar organized two day workshop on “Digital Media” on 28 March, 2019. Approximately 70 students of the department participated in the event.
An Academic of national repute, Dr. Mukul Shrivastava was the resource person during the event. He has about 19 years of experience as educationist, blogger and film maker. He is Associate Professor and Head Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, University of Lucknow, Lucknow. He has authored five books and translated three books, among which V.S Naipaul titled “An Area of Darkness” is a famous book that won noble prize. He has also worked as an independent journalist with BBC Hindi.
Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar along with Prof Arif Nazir, Head Department of Mass communication and Video Production extended floral welcome to the guest.While emphasizing the need of such events, Principal Dr Rajesh said that it is an endeavor to call intellectual persons from different areas so that they can come and cater the needs of students. He also stressed that such events provides platform to learn from experiences of best resource persons from the field. While talking about the topic he added that Digital Media is Buzz word and it is ruling everywhere and it has revolutionized in short span of time.
While briefing students about Digital Media, Dr. Mukul Shrivastava said that the world of digital media is booming by the day and so does the urge of businesses to expand it more gaining them maximum monetary benefits. Everything we see on the web through mobiles, the tablet PCs and obviously laptops and desktops is a part of digital media.
Prof. Arif Nazir, Head of the Department of Mass Communication & Video Production briefed the students about core concept of the workshop. Adding further, he said that this workshop provides hand on training in the field of digital media and digital storytelling and it will help them to make better use of their free time and make creative stuff out of that time.
This event was conducted in two technical sessions. In first technical session, Dr Mukul Shrivastava explained the concept of digital storytelling and he screened various films like “Sidhi Baat No Bakwas” to better explain various formats of Digital Story Telling. Assignments were also given to students to make short films based on concept of digital story telling.
In second session, films made by students were evaluated and discussed about and students also cleared all their queries regarding digital story telling during this session. The workshop was also attended by Dr. Rajni Khanna, Administrator and Head department of Zoology, Prof. Sania Arora, Prof Vani Sharma, Prof. Saundarya Kochar, Prof. Roohi Sharma, Prof. Ferry Bhatia, Prof. Nizar and Prof. Rajesh Talwar.
