‘B’ Zone Zonal Youth Festival inaugurated in GNDU

PPN17091420Amritsar, September 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A 4-day Zonal Youth Festival of affiliated colleges of Guru Nanak Dev University from B Zone (District Tarn Taran, Pathankot, Gurdaspur) inaugurated here today in the Dashmesh Auditorium with the beats of Bhangra. More than 500 students-artists are participating in 27 items of Music, Theatre, Dance, Literary & Fine Arts. This festival would be concluded on September 20. Registrar, Dr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon inaugurated the festival by lighting the candles in the presence of faculty members and students. Dr. Jagjit Kaur, Director, Youth Welfare welcomed the chief guest and student-artists. She gave the details of the activities and achievements of the Department. While speaking on this occasion, Dr. Dhillon appreciated the efforts of Youth Welfare Department for the successfully organizing the youth festivals. He encouraged the student-artists to perform better in the every field for successful life. He said that participation in these activities is more important than wining or loosing. He said that the students from rural area, besides the cultural activities has also achieved great success in the field of academic, research and sports.  He hoped that the selected talent from these youth festivals would bring the national level achievements to the University in future. Dr. Jagjit Kaur have also honoured Prof. Dhillon with memento on this occasion. Today’s competitions started with Bhangra followed by Group Song Indian,Group Shabad/Bhajan, Vaar, Kavishri and Fine Arts. Similarly, on September 18, the competitions of Costume Exhibition, Skit, Mimicry, Mime, Folk Song, Geet/Gazal, Classical Instrumental (Percussion), Classical Vocal, Rangoli and Fulkari will be organized. On September 19, the competitions of Folk Instruments, Group Song Western, Classical Dance, Western Vocal, Classical Instrumental Non-Percussion, Poetical Symposium, Elocution and debate will be held. On the last day, i.e. September 20 the competitions of Group Song, Quiz and Gidha followed by prize distribution function will be held.
