Amritsar, July 4 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Hargun Kaur, an alumnus of DAV Public School Lawrence Road who is a versatile personality and accomplished singer was honoured by Nanhi Chhaan Foundation, Amritsar under the programme ‘English Access Microscholarship Program’. The programme is sponsored by the US Embassy in India for the underprivileged children. The event i.e the second session of the 2 years scholarship programme run by Nanhi Chhaan Foundation, was held at Sacred Light Sen. Sec. School, Mehta Road Amritsar. The Foundation through various events and programmes endeavors to work for the personality development, cultural enhancement and English Language development etc for the underprivileged children.
The Fondation honoured Dr. Neera Sharma Principal of the school and Hargun Kaur for her excellent contribution in the field of Music. She interacted with the studnets there and shared her life experiences. She inspired them to follow their dreams passionately. She also entertained them with her scintillating performance. Hargun Kaur throughout her schooling has been an outstanding student, excelling both in academic and co–curricular activities. At the age of nine years, she received the award of the Best Harmonium Player at the National Level. Her first participation in a TV Show ‘Chak De Bache’ on 9X gave her the much needed recoginition and exposure and from there it was no looking back for her. She was among the Top Seven in this event.
She retained the top slot in the Light Vocal Category in DAV Youth Festivals held at National Level for many years. She was also one of the Finalists in the popular TV Show, India’s Got Talent – Season 5 on Colours. Her recent venture on Star Plus, the programme ‘The Voice’ earned her the honour of ‘Jai Ho’ performer from the legendary A.R Rehman. She was the second Runner Up in this popular show . According to her, the show ‘The Voice’ earned her the lifetime achievement award as she was blessed by the illustrious Lata Mangeshkar, who gave her a token on this show. Currently she is pursuing M.Phil and doing research in Music from the University of Mumbai and wants to pursue Ph.d She composes and writes her songs and performs solo also.
In her latest endevor, she has written and sung a song alongwith Bawa Sahni, ‘Chhadin na Kade Meri Baa’n, Baba Nanakaa’ for a project for PTC Punjabi which will be released today i.e 04.07.2019. Dr. Neera Sharma, blessed Hargun for her accomplishments and said that she has always been a wonderful student who had shown academically also. She got 96.25 % marks in Std– XII in Commerce stream which shows her consistency and diligence towards her work.
She was inivted by the Nanhi Chhaan Foundation to motivate and inspire the under privileged children in the Immersion Camp which aims to bring overall develoment of the children through various activities and performances by resource persons and artists from different fields.
The Chairman of the Foundation S.Harpal Singh, Co – ordinator Mr.Sanjay Joshi along with the teachers Mr. Ritika, Mr.Abhijeet and Mr.Prateek were present on this occaison. They thanked Dr. Neera Sharma and Hargun Kaur for their time and motivation.
