Chandigarh lifts trophy at “NZ-1 Inter-DPS Football-2014”, Host DPS win silver

Amritsar, Oct. 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) – On the final day of the “North Zone Inter-DPS Football Tournament-2014” held at Delhi Public School, DPS Chandigarh lifted the winner’s trophy pilling up 5-4 goals against Hosts DPS Amritsar in a nail biting penalty stroke. DPS Chandigarh won the gold while DPS Amritsar bagged the second position with a silver medal in the football tourney, that concluded here in school premises.

DPS Bathinda won the 3rd position drubbing DPS Srinagar who stood fourth. Akashdeep Singh of DPS Amritsar won the Best defender Trophy while Eemaan  Narain Singh Kang of DPS Amritsar was declared the Best Player of the Tournament.

DPS Chandigarh dominated the tournament throughout and landed with the well deserving gold keeping up the fight till the end against hosts DPS Amritsar in the final match. The winners were presented prizes by Aakash Khandelwal member school management in the presence of school principal Mrs Sangeeta Singh.

The North Zone –1 Inter-DPS football tournament was also flagged off by Manu Sood, HoD Sports, DAV College Jalandhar in school premises. As many as 16 teams from the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal, U.P. and J & K participated. Football teams had arrived from Jalandhar, Pinjore, Jammu, Azad nagar, Gurdaspur, Barra, Srinagar, Amritsar, Jhakri, Ambala, Bhathinda, Rohtak, Khanna, Kathua, Mahendragarh, Rewari, Hisar, Katra and Chandigarh. There were 19 teams, out of which 4 teams qualified for Semi – finals including DPS Srinagar, DPS Amritsar, DPS Bathinda and DPS Chandigarh
