Khalsa College Student Selected for Tokyo Olympics, Campus Upbeat

Amritsar, April 8 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Divyansh Singh Panwar a budding shooting star from Khalsa College Amritsar (KCA) has been selected for the Tokyo Olympics, sending the whole campus to rejoice today. He will be part of the Indian team going to the Tokyo Olympics.

                 Divyansh is undergoing training camps in Delhi presently and his selection was made following his stellar performances in the recent National and International events. The management and Principal Dr. Mehal Singh said that a history of sort has been made by Panwar who has ensured the slot for the coveted international event.

            Khalsa College has been at the forefront when it comes to nurturing International level sports persons, said Dr. Mehal Singh. Khalsa College Governing Council Secretary Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina said it was a matter of great pride that their students have been selected for Olympics. He said they were committed to provide world class sports facilities to the students so that they can hone their game in the world events.

            Panwar is a student of BCA First Year and he had been an outstanding shooter throughout. He had won 2019 Beijing World Cup. Continuing his winning streak earlier, Divyansh also bagged a gold medal in the 10 meters air rifle team event and a bronze medal in the individual event at the World Shooting Championships held in Delhi. So far, he has won a total of 5 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze medal in the World Cup.

            The fact that he has just entered the Olympics at the age of 18 is a testament to his achievements and skills so far. Chhina and Dr. Mehal Singh in particular, congratulated Dr. Daljit Singh, Head, Sports Department and the entire sports department on this achievement. He said that Divyansh is India’s top athlete in the 10m air rifle event and it is a matter of pride for the entire college for his selection.

                 Referring to the glorious history of achievements in College sports Dr. Daljit Singh said that the College got this honor after four decades. Prior to this Bahadur Singh, a student of the College had shown his brilliance in the Shot Put event in Moscow Olympic Games held in 1980.

            He attributed this great achievement to Divyansh’ commitment, the efforts of the Managing of the college, especially the support received from President Mr. Satyajit Singh Majithia, and Secretary Mr. Chhina and all the members including principals of the College. He said, all the office bearers made it possible to witness this historic day. On this occasion, Dean Academic Affairs Prof. Sukhmeen Bedi Registrar Devinder Singh, Prof. Atam Randhawa etc. were present.
