Amritsar, August 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Bibi Jagir Kaur president of SGPC has strongly condemned the mahademolition of the statue of Sher-e-Punjab Maharaja Ranjit Singh outside the Sikh Gallery at the Royal Fort in Lahore Pakistan.
In a statement issued from the SGPC office Bibi Jagir Kaur said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh was a Sikh king in whose kingdom all had equal rights and there was no discrimination against anyone. She said that the rule of Maharaja Ranjit Singh was based on the principles of the Sikh Gurus, which included social equality and religious freedom for all. Apart from Sikhs, the officials of other religions were also appointed at Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s court. Bibi Jagir Kaur said that Maharaja Ranjit Singh, granted properties for the Gurdwara Sahibs, and to an example of secularism and he showed great respect to other religions.
“Demolishing the statue of a world-renowned Sikh ruler and expressing hatred was an act against humanitarian concerns. I appeal to the government of Pakistan to take stern action against those responsible for desecrating the statue of Maharaja Ranjit Singh so that no such heinous act is committed again”, said Bibi Jagir Kaur.
