CBSE National Chess Championship Commences at DAV Public School

Amritsar, Nov. 19 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A four day CBSE National Chess Championship commenced today at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road , Amritsar amidst fun and frolic. The school organised the championship under the magnanimous leadership of Arya Ratan Sh. Punam Suri ji, President DAV CMC, New Delhi, the mentorship of Regional Director Amritsar Zone Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra, Principal BBK DAV College for Women, Lawrence Road and under the able guidance of Mrs. Neera Sharma, Principal DAV Public School.

                     Honourable Sh.Pushkar Vohra, Joint Director CBSE Sports graced the occasion as the Chief Guest of the day and Sh. R.S. Tiwari, CBSE Observer was the Guest Of Honour. The manager of the school Dr. K. N. Kaul, Principal DAV College, Hathi Gate, Amritsar ; Advocate Sh. Sudarshan Kapoor, Principal Shabnam Handa, Industrialist Sh. Surinder Mehra, Principal Mrs. Bhalla, Sh. Salwan and other dignitories were present at the inaugural function.

                   The function began with the lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest and the other guests. The students of the school presented ’DAV GAAN’ and gave a scintillating Balle performance on Women Empowerment and Female Foeticide which raised the spirit of one and all in the audience. Dr. ( Mrs.) Neera Sharma, Principal of the school welcomed the chief guest for his time and thanked all the guest for being a part of the function. She said that the school was honoured to organise such an event and thanked CBSE for showing faith in the school. She said that as many as 72 schools and more than 300 sports enthusiast have come from five zones and four gulf plusters to compete for different titles. She also read out the performance report of the school.

                     In his speech Honourable Chief Guest, Mr. Pushkar Vohra, highlighted the significance of sports in the holistic development of the child. He mentioned that the books are the sources of knowledge and information but real education takes place in the playground. He congratulated all the participants who have come from far off places to be a part of this sport event. He advised them to give their best without worrying about the results. Regional Director, Dr.(Mrs.) Neelam Kamra, Principal, BBK DAV College For Women, Lawrence Road, Amritsar, said that it is the school that prepares the future leaders and entrepreneurs and even the sports persons. She advised all the participants to play whole heartedly and aim to reach National and International level.

 While addressing the audience the Manager of the school, Sh. K. N. Kaul, Principal, DAV College, Hathi Gate, boosted the morale of the students and encouraged them to play a fair game and keep up the spirit of sportsmanship. Dr. (Mrs.) Neera Sharma, Principal of the school thanked the chief guest and other eminent dignatories who were present at the function. She also applauded her teachers, specially the sports faculty, who were always on their toes to make this event successful.
