16 days training programme for Assistant/Associate Professor of Physical Education

Amritsar, February 7 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The 12th day of 16 days training programme for Assistant/Associate Professor of Physical Education organised by Department of Physical Education, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar in collaboration with Higher Education Department of Punjab started with the gym workout. The first Academic Session was taken by Dr. Parminder Singh Professor and Head of the Department of Sports Sciences, Patiala and main aim of his presentation was Play, Pain and Performance. He laid emphasis on the requirement of pain for life and the locomotive evolution of human beings. He focused upon difference between pain and fatigue with showing perspective of coaches on both. He sensitized the participants on Health Movement, Fitness Movement and Sports Movement components. Finally he concluded that Activity strengthens while inactivity always leads to wastage. The second Academic Session was presided by Dr. Jaspal Singh. He discussed Sports Excellence: A pathway from Grassroots to Elite Performance. He sensitizes the participants about the working culture and workload of newly recruited teachers in the Physical Education field. He also discussed perceived benefits behind sports performance. Sir also told about transition of talent to medal winning situations and ultimately gaining sports excellence. The Third Academic Session was presented by Dr. Nareshpal Singh Saini, Head of the Department of Physics and GNDU Amritsar on the topic Application of Biomechanics in Sports Activities. He discussed about various forces acting in sports. Evening activity started with general and specific warming up followed by football, athletics and conditioning exercises.

                13th day of 16 days The day started with warming up and stretching followed by agility training, core workout and gym workout in three different groups. The first Academic Session started was taken by Dr. Ravinder Chaudhary, Secretary and Athletics Federation of India. His topic was Use of Technology in Modern Athletics. He also sensitized the participants about the role of electronic devices in athletics like Photo Finish, Electronic Stop Watch, transporter, EDM and VDM. In the second Academic Session Dr Ravinder Chaudhary discussed NIDJAM. He also showed the statistics of number of participants and work of NIDJAM in uplifting athletic performance in India. In third academic session Dr. Narendra Sharma, Associate Professor English, DAVIET, Jalandhar informed the participants on defining Physical Education through teachers Lens. Evening activity started with general and specific warming up followed by football, athletics and conditioning exercises.

                  On the 14th day, Professor Arvind Malik, Head and Dean of Department of Physical Education at Kurukshetra University was a resource person In the first academic session. He sensitizes the participants with the latest research projects and the agencies which fund the research projects. He also highlighted some areas where the research has not been done yet. In the second academic session Professor Arvind Malik discussed Physical Literacy.  He trained participants in detection and prevention of postural deformities. He laid emphasis on walking, sitting and standing and its impact on posture. He stressed on walking barefoot while at home to correct the posture and alignment of the body. Third session comprised of an objective test to evaluate the knowledge gained by participants. Evening activity started with general and specific warming up followed by football, athletics and conditioning exercises.
