National Tourism Day celebrated at Guru Nanak Dev University

Amritsar, January 25 (Punjab Post Bureau) – To commemorate National Tourism Day, Department of Hotel Management and Tourism of Guru Nanak Dev University  organized a guest lecture in collaboration with Sahara Travels Amritsar.

The day is observed to cultivate awareness among the global community on the importance of tourism and its social, political, financial and cultural worth. The lecture was attended by the students of BTTM ( Bachelor of Tourism and Travel Management) and BHMCT (Bachelor of Hotel Management and Catering Technology).

The eminent speakers for the guest lecture were Bikramjit Singh Director, Sahara Travels and Mr. Harmanjit Singh- Manager, Sahara Travels. The resource persons were heartily welcomed by Professor in charge of the department Dr. Mandeep Kaur. The session was conducted to emphasize the role of Global Distribution System as a future of communication in tourism industry. The experts elucidated and emphasized the significance of Global Distribution Systems- Amadeus and Galileo for the purpose of hotel, flight and train reservations. The server-hosted web services that provide deals in the booking of travel products has worked wonders in tourism industry.

It was an interactive session with the students where the senior travel consultant Harmanjit Singh emanated the scope of GDS softwares in tourism industry. The softwares deliver worldwide data, rates, inventory, offers, real time availability of airlines, hotel rooms, car rental, bus tickets and many more to make the travel industry more informatics and sophisticated. The session brought an enthusiastic vibe among each and every student to gain practical exposure so that the current generation can bring a change in tourism industry.
