

Amritsar, Jan. 13 (Dharmender Singh Rataul) – The festival of Lohri was celebrated with fervor at Khalsa College for Women (KCW) on the campus here today. The festivities highlighted the need of girl education which would finally lead to the girl’s deserving place in the society. The girls resorted to singing and dancing and also participated in the kite-flying competition held to mark the ocassion. KCW Principal Dr.Sukhbir Kaur Mahal said the society need to change its mindset and girls are reaching the heights and even doing better than boys in many respects. She said the society was slowly changing for the good as now the Lohri for the newly born girl child was also being celebrated while the trend was confined earlier to the newly born boys alone.
Dr.Mahal and other staff members ignited the fire and the girl students resorted to the traditional dance Gidda to the tunes of folk songs. Dr.Mahal said that as per the tradition of the College the Lohri was celebrated with enthusiasm and they made it a point that the inherent message of stressing upon the girls education was aired at this occasion.
