Amritsar, Mar. 23 (Punjab Post Bureau) -The departments of Physical and Life sciences of the college viz. Department of Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology and Biotechnology organized science exhibition. This exhibition was sponsored by DBT, Govt. of India, under Star College Scheme.
The faculty and students from Department of Chemistry propagated the concept of “Green Chemistry” as an ecofriendly approach. The students displayed posters on the allied topics. On the other hand the Department of Physics held a poster making competition on “Wonders of physics”. The event aimed at generating the interest of undergraduate student in physics. The students displayed models on various aspects of physics.
The Department of Botany organized flower show and displayed medicinal plants in the exhibition. The health-benefits of condiments were explained to the students from non-medical & humanities background.
The Department of Zoology held poster making competition on “Conservation of Biodiversity”. Models were also displayed on the topics viz. Avian Architects, diversity of corals, working of wetlands etc. The department also organized a birding trip to Harike wetland on 18th March, 2015.
The Department of Biotechnology displayed models on organic farming, Gene cloning etc. All the aforementioned activities were sponsored by Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi vide Star College Scheme, aimed at strengthening the basic sciences at undergraduate level. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra appreciated the efforts of the students and interacted with them about the application of science in daily life.
