
Amritsar, Apr. 7 (Punab Post Bureau) – DAV Public School, Lawrence Road today observed World Health Day in its premises to make the students aware about the importance of maintaining good health for leading a fruitful life.
World Health Day is celebrated on April 7 every year to mark the anniversary of the founding of WHO in 1948. The Day provides an opportunity to highlight and get involved in activities leading to better health. To mark the occasion, a special talk was organised for the students by Dr.K.S. Manchanda, who talked about ‘Food Safety’, the theme of World Health Day for this year. He informed the students about healthy lifestyle and how their health is related to their performance. He asked the students to eat healthy and stay away from junk food. He also said that good health is not limited to physical health only, mental health is equally important for the overall development of their personality. He talked about the ever increasing need of exercise as students are indulging more and more into gadget related activities, thus limiting physical activity. This makes them prone to diseases like obesity, diabetes and heart related problems in the long run. He concluded by saying that the old saying ‘Health is Wealth’ stands true even today and we should always keep this in our mind.
Regional Director (Amritsar Zone) Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra Principal BBK DAV College for Women, Lawrence Road, Amritsar and the Manager of the school Dr.Rajesh Kumar said in their message to the students that good health should be our priority as healthy citizens can make a healthy nation. Principal of the school, Dr.Neera Sharma, while addressing the students said that performance at school is related to physical and mental health, so they must keep track of what they eat today as it will effect their lifestyle in future. She added that food safety is not only related to manufacturers in this field but is also related to personal hygiene and everyone else from a farmer to vendors, shopkeepers and consumers. She said that safety is a shared responsibility and we must be aware of what we are eating.
