BBK DAV College for Women Conducted workshop on Clinical Biochemistry

Amritsar, 18 April (Jagdeep Singh)- The Department of Zoology of BBK DAV College for Women, Amritsar, organized a workshop on Clinical Biochemistry on 18^th April, 2014. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra inaugurated this workshop and addressed the students on the importance of clinical biochemistry parameter which need to be monitored regularly for a healthy life. Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Head of the Department of Zoology explained the procedures for the Biochemical tests viz serum total cholesterol and Glucose. The Students of B.Sc (Medical) performed the test after demonstration by the teachers. This workshop was organized for determining the glucose and lipid levels of the members of teaching and non-teaching staff of the college. The students were apprised with the techniques of collection and processing of clinical samples. The anthropometric indexes viz BMI were also calculated. Apart from training on the handling of sophisticated Laboratory and biochemistry analyzer, the students were explained the methods of collection and processing of data and interpretation of result using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). The teachers from the department of Zoology namely Dr. Monika Bhardwaj, Ms. Prabjot Kaur, Ms. Isha Babbar and Ms. Ridhima Vij demonstrated the test procedures to the students.  Mrs. Prabhjot Kaur department of Bioinfomatics executed SPSS for compilation and interpretation of data Mr. Vinod and Mr. Rahul, technical staff of the department helped the students in handling the equipment. Principal Dr.(Mrs.) Neelam Kamra appreciated the efforts of the faculty and the students and motivated them to continue working for the betterment of mankind.
