BBK DAV College for Women celebrated Hindi Diwas

Amritsar, Sept. 18 (Punjab Post Bureau) –  BBK DAV College for Women celebrated Hindi Diwas. Swami Dayanand Study Centre of the college & Arya Pradeshik Pratinidhi Upsabha, Punjab organized a function on the occasion. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra was the Chief Guest and was welcomed with bouquets presented by the staff members of Hindi, Sanskrit & Philosophy department, Dr. Anita Narinder, Dr. Renu Vashisht, Dr. Shelly Jaggi, Mrs. Anu Khanna Dr. Saroj Bala and also by Ms. Poornima,  Student Editor of Hindi Department and Ms. Sandeep, Student President of Arya Yuvti Sabha.

Dr. Shelly Jaggi of the Hindi Department conducted the stage on the occasion and explained how even the Britishers, when they came to India, learnt Hindi which they knew was imperative to rule over India. Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra addressing the students on the occasion exhorted them to love the national language and give it the respect it deserves. She explained that all languages are important but it is only through our mother tongue that we can express ourselves in the best possible way. She also stated that Sanskrit is the mother of all languages including English and explained that Hindi serves as a unifying factor for the different parts of India which speak different languages.

Dr. Renu Vashisht, Head, Department of Sanskrit, emphasized the importance of the Hindi Language. She quoted Swami Dayanand and Acharya Vinoba Bhave & Maithili Sharan Gupt to stress on the significance of our mother tongue-Hindi. She stated that people have become self conscious and hesitant while speaking this language and that while Hindi is spreading its wings across the world, we in India feel ashamed to converse in it.

Ms. Dheerika Sharma, M.A. JMC Semester-I recited a poem on the occasion. A slogan writing and painting competition was also organized which was judged by Ms. Shefali & Mr. Shailender of Fine Arts Department & Dr. Saroj Bala of Hindi Department. The winners were awarded certificates and prizes. Two students of the college, Simran Kaur & Dheerika Sharma gave a presentation on “Soch to Sach”. They explained the importance of ideas like self realization, inner strength and following ones dreams.

Dr. Anita Narinder, Head Department of Hindi, concluded the function with a vote of thanks to the principal and all the staff members and students present on the occasion. She too stressed on the idea that our mother tongue Hindi deserves our respect and that we need to take pride in it.
