DBT sponsored lecture on Green Consumer Day at BBK DAV College

Amritsar, Oct. 17 (Punjab Post Bureau) –  Department of Botany & Chemistry of BBK DAV College for Women collectively organized a DBT sponsored guest lecture on the occasion of green consumer day which was delivered by Dr. Adarsh Pal Vig, Associate Professor, Department of Botanical and environmental sciences, GNDU. In his lecture he discussed in detail about the solid waste management issues and its remedies. He told students that use of non-biodegradable items such as polythene bags in limited amount is not hazarduous but excess use of these creates ecological imbalance. So, each individual should follow reuse culture and one should reduce, reuse, and recycle the nonbiodegradable items instead of discarding them. He also highlighted the fact that it is ironical while uneducated are helpful in cleansing the environment. Most educated and higher ups are found sporting the environment. In this connection, he also updated the audience about the ongoing controversy regarding Bhagtawala Solid Waste Management Plant Project. He also told that Biophenol-A, a chemical present in plastic bottles mimes the natural hormones and causes infertility in humans. His lecture was of great help to create environmental awareness among the students. A quiz competition in this regard was conducted on the occasion and prizes were distributed among the winners. Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Neelam Kamra, Dr. Poonam Khullar (HOD) Chemistry Dept., Mrs. Rashmi Kalia (HOD) Botany Dept, Mrs. Pawan, Mrs. Vandana, Ms. Neha, Ms. Parjeet Kaur, Ms. Madhu, Ms. Manpreet Kaur, Ms. Gurjeet Kaur, Ms. Lavanaya, Ms. Divya, Ms. Parminder were present on the occasion. Dr. Neelam Kanmra applauded the efforts of the department for creating awareness on such an importance issue.
