
Amritsar, Dec. 1 (Punjab Post Bureau)- On the eve of World AIDS Day, an awareness programme was organised at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road, Amritsar in collaboration with Fortis Hospital , Amritsar. A special team from the Fortis Hospital comprising of Dr.Rominder Kaur, Consultant Pulmonology Department, Dr. Deepika Sharma , HOD, Fortis Operative system, Madam Shalini Bernard, Chief of Nursing, Mr.Atul Sharma, Manager, Mr.Raviprakash Sharma, Manager and Mr.Deepak Bakshi visited the school to address the students of Std IX & X and make them aware about the deadly disease. Dr.Rominder Kaur showed an informative presentation on HIV /AIDS clarifying many myths and misconceptions attached to the disease. A quiz was also conducted for the students who very enthusiastically participated in it and answered the questions very eagerly. The stigma attached to the disease is not less than the discrimination based on caste system. This was very effectively discussed and showcased by Ms. Resham from Science faculty of the school through a documentary directed by Farhan Akhtar.
In the end the winners of the quiz were given prizes. It was a very enlightening session which aimed at spreading knowledge about the infection, its prevention and cure. In the morning assembly also, the students performed a role play highlighting the stigma attached with the disease leading to discrimination against the patients. They pledged to educate people to work to check the epidemic for which there is still no cure.
Dr.Neera Sharma, Principal of the school thanked the team from Fortis Hospital for their time. She said that it was education that can empower and enable people to prevent its spread. She said that we must all work together towards an AIDS – free generation ahead.
