Alumni Meet organised at GNDU

Amritsar, Apr. 25 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Department of Laws of Guru Nanak Dev University organized 2nd Alumni Meet – 2016 in the Dashmesh Auditorium of the University. All the faculty members of the department along with the students gave warm welcome to the distinguished Alumni in a traditional way. The function commenced by lighting the ceremonial lamp which symbolizes Light and Knowledge. A Powerpoint Presentation on the Historical Background of the Department was shown which was appreciated well by the Alumni.

            Prof. (Dr.) Viney Kapoor, Head of the Deptt gave the floral welcome to the distinguished guests. Prof. Dr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar delivered Presidential Address on the occasion and discussed various achievements of the university. Hon’ble Justice Fateh Deep Singh Sandhu, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh was the Chief Guest of the occasion. Advocate Aishwarya Bhatti, Secretary, Supreme Court Bar Association of India was the Special Invitee and Mr. Arun Sood, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, the Guest of Honour. Dr. Subodh Kumar, Dean Alumni delivered the Welcome Address. While addressing the Alumni, Dr. Subodh congratulated the Head for organizing such a wonderful event and also explained the achievements of university. The Dean Alumni further emphasized that participation of Alumni is necessary for growth of the university.

            Hon’ble Justice Fateh Deep Singh Sandhu while addressing the gathering, said that pure legal knowledge required to be disseminated among the student. Moreover, dedication, integrity and industrious qualities must be adopted in order to become a great lawyer. At this occasion, the Departmental Brochure of 2nd Alumni Meet 2016 was also released by the Chief Guest.

            Advocate Aishwarya Bhati, Secretary, Supreme Court Bar Association of India was the Special Invitee of the occasion and discussed the concept of constitutional morality. Special invitee reminded three warnings given by the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during Constituent Assembly Debate.  The first warning was “Bhakti in Politics” which means service to nation, not to worship political heroes. Secondly she stressed upon “Revolution by Gandhian Principle of Non-violence” and thirdly “Ambedkar said that we got political independence but not social independence” which still required in the society.

Mr. Arun Sood, Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, the Guest of Honour shared his experiences with Alumni and the budding lawyers. He further told that in order to become successful in life we must overcome our shortcomings. The Mayor also expressed his gratitude to the Department for shaping one’s personality.

Dr. Kapoor said that it was my dream that Alumni Meet of the Department is made a regular feature, so on assuming charge last year she started it. She further said that in the present scenario alumni support is very crucial for the upliftment of department and placement of the students. Retired distinguished faculty members were also felicitated by the dignitaries.

Vote of thanks was presented by Prof. (Dr.) Viney Kapoor, Head, Deptt. of Laws and explained the motive of organizing such events. Such type of events make well familiar with the other member of the family which will also facilitate the academic excellence.  The singing, bhangra and skit performances by the departmental students added colours to the cultural event. The other dignitaries who attended the event were Ms. Satinder Satti, Satish Kumar Sharma, Prof. Kashmir Singh, Prof. Jaspal Singh, S.K. Kapoor, Vivek Puri, Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Vishal Wadha, Vivek Puri, Sh. Charanjit Singh and Manu Kukar and also was honored on this occasion. The event closed with National Anthem.
