Amritsar, May 18, 2016 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Guru Nanak Dev University under Global Initiative for Academic Networks (GIAN) sponsored by Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India started international workshop on ‘Chemical Catalysis in Biology’, here today in the Conference Hall of the University. Prof. Amnon Kohen, University of Iowa, USA started this workshop with objective at providing international exposure to the faculty and facilitate collaborative research with scientists of eminence. Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar presided over the inaugural session. Prof. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Registrar, Prof. T S Banipal, Director Research, Prof. A S Sidhu, Director,UGC HRDC, Prof. R K Mahajan, Dean College Development Council, Prof. Subodh Kumar, Dean Alumni Association and other university officials were also present. While inaugurating the workshop, Prof. Brar, stressed upon the significance of international exposure to the students and faculty of the university. He urged the students and faculty to collaborate and go out of box to achieve success in life. Prof. Gurcharan Kaur, Local Coordinator of GIAN while welcoming the chief guest and others introduced the speaker. She said Dr Kohen as scientist par excellence in the field of catalysis, protein folding and evolution at molecular level and with publications in world class journals including Science, Journal of American Chemical Society and ACS Catalysis. Prof. Palwinder Singh, Course coordinator, Department of Chemistry said that the workshop is being attended by faculty, research scholars and students of the university and outside. He said that the workshop would be concluded on May 31, 2016 and the lecture would be available live through web cast services for which link http://live.vmukti.com/gndu/ has been provided on GIAN portal and also on university website www.gndu.ac.in and to develop high quality course material in niche areas, both through video and print that can be used by a larger body of students and teachers.
