Amritsar, May 21 (Punjab Post Bureau)- DAV College celebrated International Biodiversity Day on May 21, 2016 in collaboration with Punjab Biodiversity Board and sponsored by National Biodiversity Authority, Govt. of India, New Delhi. More than 60 students of prestigious institutions like DAV Collegiate Sr Sec School participate in the “On the spot painting competition” on the theme “Biodiversity and Wild life” was organized on the occasion.
Dr Amarjit Singh Soodan, Associate Prof., Dept of Botanical and Environmental Science, GNDU, Amritsar was the chief guest and guest speaker of the day. Dr Rajesh Kumar, Principal of the college presided over the function. Dr soodan delivered a talk on “Biodiversity: The contemporary scenario”. He informed the students about the various aspects of biodiversity. He also informed about the alarming scenario of Punjab biodiversity which is on the verge of depletion at rapid pace.
Ms Shruti Khanna of DAV International School won the first prize in the painting competition while Kashish Aggarwal & Manpreet Kaur from the same school won the second and third prizes respectively. Dr. Daizy Sharma, Administrator, Dr. Rupinder Kaur, Prof. Nihita Sharma, Dr. Anita Mahajan, Dr. Rajni Khanna, Dr. Neeru Gupta, Dr. Neeraj Gupta, Prof. Ritu Sharma were also present.
