Three Week Summer Programme inaugurated at Guru Nanak Dev University

Amritsar June 3 (Pujab Post Bureau) – A “Three Week Summer Programme” was inaugurated at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 62 University and College teachers from a wide spectrum of disciplines from various parts of the country are participating. Prof. S.S. Johl, Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda was the Chief Guest. Prof. Johl in his enlightening inaugural address motivated the young faculty members to accept the challenge of restoring the dignity associated with this noble profession. Labelling the students, teachers and the farmers as the pillars of any society, he drew the attention of the participants to act as a role model for the students not only in terms of words, but also in action.

Placing the teaching profession at a higher pedestal, he said that this is because of the fact that the teachers have more onerous responsibility to make the nation forward on the path of development. He exhorted the teachers to confine not only to imparting subject specific knowledge to the students, but also to make them good human beings inculcated with moral, ethical values. He concluded his address by counseling the teachers to rise to the occasion and grapple all the challenges with valour, dedication, devotion and discipline. Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Director, UGC-Human Resource Development Centre, in his welcome address introduced the Chief Guest and enumerated his invaluable contribution to the academic and socio-political fields as a thinker of international repute. He also shared with the participants, the aims and objectives of such courses which include the holistic development of the teachers in addition to the upgradation of their knowledge.

Prof. D.S. Sogi, Deptt. of Food Science & Technology and the Course Coordinator apprised the teachers with the efforts being made to run this course smoothly. Earlier Prof. Johl was accorded a floral welcome by Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Prof. D.S. Sogi and Dr. Mohan Kumar.
