Three-Week Summer Programme concluded at GNDU

PPN2206201609Amritsar, June 22 (Punjab Post Bureau) – A “Three-Week Summer Programme” was concluded at the UGC-Human Resource Development Centre of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 63 university and college teachers from a wide spectrum of disciplines from length & breadth of the country participated. Prof. Hermann Dworczak, an internationally acclaimed Social Scientist, from Documentation Centre of the Austrian Resistance, University of Vienna, Austria was the Chief Guest. Prof Dworczak in his valedictory address talked about the growing significance of the social movements in shaping the political destiny of any nation. He opined that all types of social movements need to work in tandem with each other in order to exert pressure on the political parties to redesign their policies in the larger interest of the masses rather than providing undue benefits to a microscopic minority of the society.nThe masses should come together on a single platform irrespective of their geographical, cultural, linguistic backgrounds on regional, national, international levels to launch a crusade against the forces of globalization, which in his view, amounts to exploitation of the poor nations, he continued. Labelling the ‘Populist Measures’ adopted by the political parties as cosmetic ones, he emphasized that the people at large needs to be cautioned against these malpractices and said that these measures are adopted merely for their electoral games rather than improving the lot of the society in the true sense of the word, he rued. Prof. Hermann also interacted with the participants and answered their queries regarding the various prevalent global socio-political issues. Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Director, UGC-HRDC also actively participated in these deliberations. Prof. D.S. Sogi, Coordinator summarized the contents of the Programme. Prof. Amarjit Singh Sidhu, Director, UGC-HRDC formally introduced the Chief Guest to the audience. Expressing his deep pleasure at the successful completion of the course, he exhorted the teachers to contribute their mite in building a better society. Prof Sidhu also enumerated the achievements of the University, which has already carved a niche for itself in the field of Higher Education in the country. The participants of the course expressed their gratitude to the faculty & supporting staff of the Centre for their whole-hearted cooperation during the entire length of the Programme. Earlier the Chief Guest was accorded a floral welcome. In the end, certificates were given away to the successful participants. Dr. Mohan Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
