Khalsa University (KU) begins Classes with 200 students on roll

Amritsar, August 31 (Punjab Post Bureau)- With around 200 students on roll, the newly established Khalsa University (KU) today set its current academic session rolling by kicking off the inaugural classes for various subjects here. The primary subjects in the focus presently are Education, Pharmacy, Physical Education and Law, said varsity office bearers ensuring that the KU will emerge as centre for research and higher learning within a few years. The varsity which has opened Ph.D programs for all the subjects would also focus on Agriculture, Engineering and Nursing in the days to come, said Vice Chancellor Dr. SS Chahal who in the presence of pro-chancellor Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina inaugurated the classes here today. He said that KU will not be purely commercial entity as are various private universities but due to being run by the elected body of a public society, the varsity realizes its dream of making education in the approach of a common man. An Agriculture scientist, VC earlier welcomed Chhina on the campus and said he was proud to be associated with the historic Khalsa College Charitable Society. He said he has experience of having been associated with various universities of the world and promised to focus on credible research and upkeep of the topmost educational standards in the varsity. He thanked the faculty members including Dr.JS Dhillon, the Principal of Khalsa College of Education. Chhina earlier reiterated Society’s resolve to make the varsity a professional institution of higher learning and added that the number of students would add up from the next session as they would be rolling on more faculties and programs. Both the Chhina and Chahal addressed the students during inaugural class sessions and spoke about the new challenges before the education and remedies for the quality dissemination of the knowledge.
