BBK DAV College Organises Lecture & Workshop on Probiotics nd Its Applications

Amritsar, October 1 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Department of Biotechnology of BBK DAV College for Women organised a DBT sponsored guest lecture and workshop on ‘Probiotics and its Applications’. Dr. Amarjeet Kaur, Assistant Professor, Department of Microbiology, GNDU was the resource person for the same. Expressing her views, Dr. Amarjeet explained the importance of gut flora in the human health, which when ingested in the form of diet in adequate amount confer health benefits. She added that, there are various probiotic strains of Lactobacillus species and bifidobacterium species which influence gut health.

After the lecture, Dr. Amarjeet also conducted a workshop in which ‘Negative Staining’ was demonstrated to the students. Students also prepared slides and observed them under the microscope. Students of B.Sc. (Biotech) Sem III participated in the workshop. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia applauded the efforts of the department and said that such hands-on sessions are necessary to familiarise the students with practical skills. Mrs. Rashmi Kalia, Head, Department of Botany, along with other faculty members, was also present on the occasion.
