Gender Champions Program launched in GNDU

Amritsar, November 9 (Punjab Post Bureau)-  A meeting of ‘Gender Champions’ was organized in the Guru Nanak Dev University under chairmanship of Prof. N.S. Tung, Dean, Academic Affairs. Prof. Avinash Kaur Nagpal, Nodal Teacher, Gender Champions, introduced the concept of Gender Champions to all present. This is Govt. of India’s initiative to engage young boys and girls in educational institutes as ‘Gender Champions’ whose responsibility is to facilitate an enabling (positive) environment within their institute where girls are treated with dignity and respect.

This meeting was attended by nearly 65 Gender Champions coming from different teaching departments of the university campus. Prof. Tung talked about importance of education in changing the mindset of people and to create a comfortable environment for everybody in the campus and the society. Students (Gender Champions) actively participated in the discussion and suggested number of activities which they propose to organize to create awareness on gender equality among students and society. Prof. K. S. Kahlon, Dean Students’ Welfare proposed vote of thanks. Prof. N. S. Sodhi, Director, Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Prof. Gurpreet Bal, President, Internal Committee Against Sexual Harassment (ICASH), Dr. Swati Mehta, Dr. Gagandeep Kaur, Dr. Sandeep Sharma were also present.
