
Amritsar, November 12 (Punjab Post Bureau) – The Indian Convention of Food Scientists and Technologists ‘ICFoST XXV’ organized jointly by Guru Nanak Dev University, Association of Food Scientists and Technologists, India (AFSTI), Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI), Mysuru and Defence Food Research Laboratory (DFRL), Mysuru at Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, concluded today with a great applaud. The theme of the conference covered the ever growing challenges being by agriculture and food processing industry in India.
Prof. R. K. Kohli, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Punjab, Bathinda was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function. He delivered the Presidential Address and stressed on the need for creating awareness among the youth with regards to the improvement of nutritional quality of food. Dr. Narpinder Singh (President AFSTI-HQ) highlighted the key issues that need to be taken care of. The primary issue is the value addition in the products that might be significantly affecting the nutritional quality of food. Second important issue that needs to be addressed is the role of climatic changes in determination of the quality of food product. He emphasized on the need of sincere efforts to be made for managing these issues and ensuring food security and safety for the wellness of the community at large.
The selected theme of this convention provided a unique opportunity for discussion on different innovative ideas and technologies related to food processing. The participating delegates, faculty, Research Scholars and students of the department thanked Prof. Ajaib Singh Brar, Vice Chancellor, GNDU for providing encouragement for the successful conduct of ICFoST XXV. The participants appreciated the infrastructural and academic atmosphere in the university and will carry back sweet memories of ICFoST XXV held in the holy city of Amritsar.
Prof Narpinder Singh, President (AFSTI-HQ) and Prof. Balmeet Singh Gill, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology and Organizing Secretary, ICFoST XXV thanked faculty, staff, research scholars and students of department who work tirelessly for the success of the event. The thought provoking and intellectually stimulating sessions from the distinguished guests will prove to be an eye opening for the budding researchers to enhance and focus on the emerging issues related to the sustainability of agriculture and food processing industry.
