Police Commissionerate, Amritsar city arrested 284 and registered 260 cases under the NDPS Act

Amritsar, 7  June (Jasbir Singh Saggu)- In a drive launched against smugglers and drug suppliers, police Commissionerate, Amritsar city has arrested 284 persons and registered 260 cases under the NDPS Act till today. With this, the ground level network of Drug suppliers has been smashed completely because it was necessary to stop the availability of drugs on the streets. FIR No. 196 dated 06-06-2014 has been registered u/s 21/61/85 NDPS Act, 25/54/59 Arms Act, PS. Chheharta, Amritsar. Police has recovered Heroin= 1 kg 5 gm, Pistol = 1 (32°), Pistol = 1 (9 mm), Live Cartridges = 6 (32°), 8 (9 mm), Rs. = 11000/-, Car= One (PB 05-U-2020) I-20. During the interrogation of drug suppliers few smugglers have been indentified, who had absconded. In the cleaning up process one Sagar Singh s/o Tarsem Singh r/o Gawal Mandi, now resident Sandhu Colony, Chheharta, Amritsar was tracked down from whom 01 kg 5 gm Heroin, two weapons ( one pistol 32 bore with 06 live cartridges, one pistol 9 mm with 08 live cartridges) 11,000/- Rs. cash has been seized. During the questioning, the accused has revealed that he was planning to supply this consignment to Metro Cities outside Punjab. Since the launch of this drive against drug smugglers and suppliers the rush of addicts to de-addiction centres has increased manifold, showing that there is no availability of drugs on the streets. De-addiction centres are having shortage of Doctors and beds to admit these addicts. Police is liaisoning with the concerned authorities for arrangement of more Doctors and beds to meet the needs in the de-addiction centres.
