DBT-Sponsored Lecture Series on the Role Of Physics in Medical Field, Oncology & Radiation at BBK DAV

Amritsar, January 23 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Department of Physics of BBK DAV College for Women organised DBT-Sponsored Lecture Series on ‘Role of Physics in Medical Field, Oncology & Radiation’. Dr. Rajeev Dhawan, Associate Professor, Department of Radiotherapy, Govt. Medical College, Amritsar and Dr. Pardeep Garg, Assistant Professor, Guru Gobind Singh Medical College, Faridkot were the resource persons. Dr. Rajeev Dhawan expressed his views on the role of Physics in the medical field and discussed how various machines such as X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI Scan and PET Scan involve the basic phenomena and principles of Physics. Dr. Pardeep Garg made students aware about oncology & radiation. Dr. Garg also explained how a patient suffering from cancer is exposed to radiation for the treatment and dwelled upon the role of a medical physicist in handling the machines during the treatment. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia applauded the efforts of the department and said that such hands-on sessions are necessary to impart practical knowledge to the students. Dr. Shweta Mohan, Head, Department of Physics, along with other faculty members, was also present on the occasion.
