Amritsar, March 10 (Punjab Post Bureau) – On the occasion of birth anniversary of Pt. Lekhram, who was an Arya Samaj Sanatan Dharm leader the students of DAV Public School , Lawrence Road, Amritsar paid rich tributes to him by arranging a special programme. They informed the audience about his inspirational life. He was a police officer in Punjab and resigned from the government service voluntarily and devoted his life for the propagation of Vedas. He was influenced by the writings of Munshi Kanhaiya Lal Alakhdhari and came to know about Maharishi Dayanand Saraswati and Arya Samaj which became a turning point in his life. He founded Arya Samaj at Peshawar and became a preacher of Punjab Arya Pratinidhi Sabha. He was a well read and well travelled person and wrote thirty three books. His dedication for Vedas was immense as he did not even care for his sick son when he received a telegram that a few Hindus were about to change their religion to Islam in Payal Village in Patiala district of Punjab. Leaving his sick son, the immediately took a train for Payal Village. But there was no stop of the train at Payal Village, therefore he jumped from the train and reached the site. There he challenged people for Shasthrarth and thus prevented the Hindus to change their religion.
This great son of India died from stab wounds inflicted upon him by a fanatic in 1897. The students recited poems highlighting his dedication for the cause of Vedas and Arya Samaj. In the end they took a pledge to take inspiration from his life and walk on the path of honesty and sacrifice choosing duty over self as shown by the immortal martyr Pt. Lekhram.
