
Amritsar, March (Punjab Post Bureau) – PG Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, BBK DAV College for Women organised Media Fiesta 2017- A Carnival comprising of various competitions related to the field of journalism. Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia and Guests of Honour, Dr. Namrata Joshi, Head, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, GNDU Regional Campus, Jalandhar and Dr. Ranbir Singh, Head, Department of Journalism & Mass Communication, IK Gujral Punjab Technical University participated in the auspicious lamp lighting ceremony and declared the fest open. The fest aimed at discovering budding journalists and providing them a platform to showcase their talent. Around 400 students from universities & colleges, such as, Punjab Technical University, Delhi University, GNDU Regional Campus, Jalandhar DAV College, Jalandhar, DAV College Amritsar, Chief Khalsa Diwan Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School, and Mission Deep Public School etc., actively participated in various competitions. These were Poster Making, Radio Jockeying, Choreography, Extempore, Interview Seeking, Quiz Competition, Karaoke & Photography.
The competitions were judged by the experts, namely Dr. Baldev Gahmbir, an eminent artist, R.J. Noor from 94.3 My FM, Mr. Pankaj from Pankaj and Preeti Dance Academy, Ms. Gurseema from NGO Mission Deep, Mr.Munish Devgan, Producer, Aaj Tak, Mr.Harinder Sohal from Sohal Studios and Mr. Kanwar Deep from Paran Singh Photography.
During the Valedictory Ceremony, Mr. Varinder Walia, Editor, Punjabi Jagran, was the Chief Guest. Mr. Walia congratulated the participants and said that such events are necessary for helping the students to display their potentials. He further emphasized the importance of ethics in journalism. Dr. Namrata Joshi said that such fests give an opportunity to the students to interact with their counterparts from the other institutions. Applauding the efforts of the department, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia said that the endeavour aims to boost the morale of the students and acquaint them with different facets of media. She felicitated the staff of the department on putting up a brilliant show. Dr. Priyanka Bassi, Head, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication said that the department has always been organising such events. She added and Media Fiesta 2017 had been a huge success. During the fest, a number of game stalls had been put up which received an overwhelming response. Towards the end of the event, Mr. Varinder Walia, Principal Dr. Pushpinder Walia, Dr. Namrata Joshi, Dr. Ranbir Singh & Mr. Ashok Sethi from Tribune gave away the prizes to the winners.
