DAV College Faculty and Students Awarded by MHRD under VISAKA

PPN2803201706Amritsar, March 24 (Punjab Post Bureau) – DAV College feel legitimate proud to announce that one faculty member and three students of the college have been awarded by Ministry of  Human Resource Development, New Delhi under VISAKA (Vitiya Saksharta Abhiyan), a campaign started by the MHRD for spreading digital literacy among citizens (Digital Financial  Literacy Campaign by Higher Education Institute for Digital Economy).  Our College is the only institution in the region and among other DAV institutions across India to be selected for Digital Financial Literacy Campaign (VISAKA).  The aim of VISAKA is to create awareness among fellow citizens and merchants about the use of cashless ecosystem. In this regard, PG Department of Computer Science and IT has been conducting series of workshops for Teaching and Non teaching Staff members, Students and community based training modules for senior citizens and other community members on cashless transaction which has been on the rise after demonetization. This initiative was carried under the guidance of Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar and Dr. Amardeep Gupta, Head Department of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Under this mega campaign, our College has enrolled more than 1000 digital volunteers students and they have trained more than 2000 households in their localities on digital economy and cashless transactions. Apart from this, more than 300 merchants have also been registered by the college for training them on cashless transactions.  With these efforts, the College has made it to the list of among the best 200 volunteers out of 4, 29,669 volunteers selected by MHRD.  On the occasion of National Convention of Students Volunteers held at Vigyan Bhawan, Prof Kapil Goyal, Faculty member of the College along with College students Soham Sharma, Vedant Rajesh and Aastha Bhatia were awarded certificates and honored by Sh. Parkash Javadkar, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India and Sh. Ravi Shankar Prasad, Honorable Ministry of Law and Justice and Communication and IT.

            Principal Dr. Rajesh Kumar appreciated the efforts of Dr. Amardeep Gupta, Head Department of Computer Science and IT for taking such initiatives for College students. He congratulated all the digital volunteers for their hard work and rewards by MHRD. While speaking about VISAKA, he added that such campaigns are essential for bringing transparency, genuine economic growth and eliminating forces threatening national security. While speaking on the occasion, Dr. Amardeep Gupta cherished the efforts of digital volunteers and staff members for organizing workshops and seminars for training fellow citizens. He added that VISAKA is a campaign started in mission mode with the aim to propagate benefits of Cashless, Digital means of payments and to bring about transformational change in the payments eco system.  While briefing about the event, Prof Kapil Goyal said that VISAKA has been attempted in 500 major cities of India and students of our College got selected for this transformational change. He added that digital volunteers of our College have given training to fellow stake holders on BHIM App, Adhar-based transaction, UPI (Unified Payment Interface), USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data), Paytm, etc. He also informed that our department has long back initiated “Digital Financial Literacy Drive” to serve stake holders from all walks of life.
