Amritsar, March 28 (Punjab Post Bureau)- A UGC-SAP sponsored national seminar on ”Sustainable Development” was organised by the University Business School of Guru Nanak Dev University. Seminar Director, Dr A.S. Sidhu welcomed the guests and threw light on the concept of sustainable development. Co-Director Dr.B.S. Hundal shared his views on the sustainability issues related to Indian Economy.
Organising Secretary Dr. B.S Mann, Head of Department suggested measures that are needed at the micro and macro levels to elevate India and other developing economies to higher and sustained growth. The Chief Organiser Dr. Vikram Sandhu touched the Agriculture sector and discussed its role in ensuring sustainability.
Dr. N.S Tung, Dean Academic Affairs was the Chief guest and spoke about the Demographic dividend of India and the need of optimum utilization of resources. Dr. Rajinder Kumar, Professor, NIT Kurukshetra delivered the key-note adderss and emphasised on important measures required for sustainability. A total of 45 papers were presented by delegates from different parts of the country covering various aspects of sustainable development, such as; sustainable agriculture, green financing , sustainable urbanization, the role of advertisement in promoting sustainable development, case studies on sustainable development etc.
The valedictory session was presided over by Dr. R.S Sandhu, Professor, Department of Sociology talked about the scenario of the urbanization policies implemented in India. Presidential address given by Dr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Professor, Punjab School of Economics highlighted the problems that have cropped up due to the imbalances in the wealth sharing in the society. The event was conducted successfully and Dr. B.S Mann, Head, Department, University Business School shared that the department is planning to conduct many more activities in the time to come for building University Business School a true knowledge hub.
