University excelled new heights of success during tenure of Prof. A.S Brar

Amritsar, 31 March (Punjab Post Bureau)-  During the tenure of Prof. A.S. Brar, Vice-Chancellor, the Guru Nanak Dev University excelled in teaching, research, sports and cultural activities. The key features were; university has emerged among the best universities of the country as per the ranking done by various surveys agencies and due to the earnest efforts of Prof. Brar and his team, university earned various coveted titles like UPE, CPEPA etc.; no fee hike was done during this period; huge amount of grants from various funding agencies as DRS, SAP, COSIST, FIST, PURSE, UGC and DST were recieved; a State of Art Infrastructure was established; five times increase in number of students in various courses. only university of the region, which paid salaries and dues well in time to its employees.  University earned a high CGPA of 3.51/4.00 from NAAC in the third Cycle of accreditation with ‘A’ Grade. During his tenure, the University established Emerging Life Science Block which houses expensive scientific equipments for quality research. The newly constructed Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan reflects the Sikh architecture. On-line admission, On-line counselling, On-line re-evaluation, introduction of Credit Based Continuous Evaluation Grading System, computerized its examination and registration system, results through SMS service, recasted user friendly website etc. are a few hallmarks of the University. A total of 4 regional campuses and 14 constituent colleges have taken the light of higher education to villages and remote boarder areas of the Punjab State.  The Act of the University stipulated that “it would promote Punjabi Studies” and “provide for research in Punjabi, Language, Literature and Culture”. It is in conformity with this statutory obligation and to attract larger number of students, University has abolished tuition fee for the students of the Department of Guru Nanak Studies and the School of Punjabi Studies and yielded desired results.

An Astro Turf for hockey, a swimming pool of international standards, a velodrome, a Gymnasium hall, shooting range and many other state-of-the art sports facilities are the prized possessions of the University. The Sports personnel of the University achieved good positions not only at national level but at the international also.  Similarly, in cultural events, University has been champion in North Zone Inter-University Youth Festivals, All India National Youth Festivals and various other competitions held at State and National levels.

Laying of foundation stone for University Institute of Technology (UIT), Evaluation Centre, Food Court for Girl Hostels and a Common Food Court were also done recently. Newly constructed buildings of University Business School, Sports Hostel for Men and Sports Hostel for Women, boys hostel and extensions of various teaching blocks were other infrastructures added to the University buildings.
