Amritsar, 24 June (Paritam Singh) – Dr. Harish C. Sharma, Former Professor and Head, Department of History of the Guru Nanak Dev University has appointed as Principal of the Guru Nanak Dev University College, Verka (Amritsar). His appointed was made keeping in view his experience in the field of research, academic achievements and administration. He took over the charge of Principal from Dr. Mehal Singh, the outgoing principal in presence of faculty and other administrative staff of the college. Dr. Sharma has experience of more than 35 years. He has three books and more than 50 research papers published in national and international journals of repute. He is member of various professional organizations. He was the head of the department of History of the University and also Professor Incharge of the Public Relations before his superannuation. In recent years, he has prepared concept papers for Shaheed Bhagat Singh Musium Khatkar Kalan and the Jung-e-Azadi Museum, Kartarpur being built by the Govt. of Punjab. On the occasion of taking over of the charge, Dr. Sharma expressed his gratitude to the University for giving him the responsibility of the largest constituent college of the University. It is one of the four rural colleges established by the University with grants from the central and state government. He said that M.A., M.Com, B.A., B.Sc., B.Com, B.Com (Professional), B.C.A., P.G.D.C.A. and other technical courses are being run by the college for which the admission is going on. He said that college has achieved excellence in short duration of three years only. He hoped that with the cooperation from the faculty and students of the college will move further towards model modern college of the University.
