Amritsar, 22 April (Punjab Post Bureau) –
Member of Parliament Gurjeet Singh Aujla along with SDM Ajnala Ms. Anupreet Kaur today visited the farmers at Salempura, Joans, Dhariwal, Othian and inspected the 66KV sub-station at Jastarwal. Around 300 acres of wheat got burnt in the fire last night caused by the sparking in electric wire over wheat farms. The farmers alleged that the fire was caused due to a short circuit in the high-tension power wires passing over a part of the land. The local electric station staff in a bid to provide power supply to a factory nearby tried to resume the power due to which sparking happened in the strong winds.
Aujla said that as per the eye witnesses the SSA of local power station Baljit Singh and JE Rajesh Kumar were on fault for resuming the eclectic supply in a windy storm. Aujla said that this is third incident in a period of about two years and the reason behind it are the low hanging wires which have not been tightened by the power department. Aujla ordered for an immediate girdavari of the losses and preparation of a report by SDM Ajnala so that the compensation for the farmers may be arranged. Special instructionshave also been passed to the surveying officers to keep record of the contract farmers so that the compensation may be passed to the deserving farmers. Aujla also assured that he will discuss the issue of compensation with the concerned authorities and find a way of helping the farmers from his MPLAD. Aujla said that farmers have also alleged that the JE takes bribes from them time and again for installing and repair purposes. He said that he will personally demand suspension for these concerned officers from CM Punjab along with the compensation.
