Deputy Commissioner Ravi Bhagat officially declared the Rural Games open
Amritsar, Sept. 29 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Gurpreet Kaur of Sangrur opened her account by clinching gold in 800m clocking 2:30.80sec. on the inaugural day of Punjab State Rural Games for Girl’s under–6 at Guru Nanak Stadium, here today. Anamika of Hoshiarpur won silver in 2:33.40sec. and Rupinder Kaur of Tarn Taran got bronze in 2:36.07 sec. Earlier Sh. Ravi Bhagat IAS, Deputy commissioner, Amritsar officially declared the games open by taking salute as many as 2400 participants in colorful Track Suits given by Sports Department, Punjab. S. Inderbir Singh Bolaria, Hon’ble Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Education, Punjab, was the Special guest and he performed the medal ceremony to the winners of 800m race.
S. Tajinder Singh Dhaliwal, IAS, Director Sports, Punjab welcomed the Chief Guest and other Distinguished guest present on the occasion and S. Rupinder Singh, Assistant Director, Sports made thanks to the dignitaries. S. Bhupinder Singh, PCS, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar who is looking after all the arrangements of this conduct of tournament was also present there.The torch bearing ceremony was performed by Navjeet Kaur, Arpandeep Kaur of Athletics, Muskan Vij and Anita Sachdeva and the Oath taking ceremony was performed by Arpandeep Kaur of Athletics. A cultural programme was also performed there and a attractive Gymnastics Show was also displayed.
In High Jump Navjot Kaur of Sangrur bagged gold by jumping 1.30m high, Parmjit Kaur also of Sangrur won silver with 1.30m and Harmandeep Kaur of Patiala got bronze with 1.27m. In 100m finals Nikita of Mukatsar Sahib clinched gold in 100m clocking 12.51sec., Harsimranjit Kaur of Tarn Taran won silver in 12.67 and Khusdeep Kaur of Bathinda got bronze in 12.80. Arpandeep Kaur of Amritsar won gold in Shotput with 10.86m Paramjit Kaur of Patiala won silver with 10.13m and Kanwarveer Kaur of Amritsar got bronze w9.32m.
In the pre quarter finals of Basketball Moga defeated Ropar 26-23, Amritsar ousted Patiala 39- 19 an Mansa beat Hoshiarpur 39-14. Mukatsar Sahib ousted Kapurthala 8-6, Fazilka defeated Fatehgarh Sahib 17-14 and Sangur ousted Mohali in the pre Quarter Final matches of Handball. In the Pre Quarter Final Matches of Volleyball Amritsar outclassed Hohsiarpur 3-0 (25-23,25-13,25-16), Faridkot defeated Bathinda 3-0 (25-13,25-13,25-10) and reached in the Quarter Finals. In Football Pre Quarter Finals Faridkot ousted Moga 4-1, Amritsar outplayed Mukatsar Sahib 3-0 and Tarn Taran defeated Ropar 1-0 goals. In Kabaddi S.B.S Nagar defeated Fatehgarh Sahib 41-25, Tarn Taran ousted Kapurthala 23-3, Hoshiarpur defeated Faridkot 64-35 and Mansa beat Fazilka 48-30.
