Prime Minister will present the award on April 21
Kapurthala, April 4 (Punjab Post Bureau) – Nurpur Lubana and Sangojla villages in Kapurthala district have been selected for the national awards by the Union Ministry of Rural Development in two different catageories.
The Panchayat of Sangojla village in Dhilwan block of Kapurthala has been selected for ‘Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Empowerment Award’ and the Panchayat of Nurpur Lubana village has been selected for ” Bal Mittartai Purskar” .
Congratulating the Panchayats selected for the award, Deputy Commissioner Mrs. Deepti Uppal said that these awards were made possible due to the work being done by the Punjab Government for the overall development of the villages under the ‘Smart Village’ scheme and the outstanding performance of the Panchayats. She said that this would inspire the rest of the panchayats to work harder.
District Development and Panchayat Officer Lakhwinder Singh Randhawa and Dhilwan BDPO. Mr. Shamsher Singh said that Punjab Government had undertaken development works worth crores of rupees in these villages and the Panchayat had done a great job.
In village Sangojla, where interlocking tiles were installed at a cost of over Rs. 10 lakhs, sewerage was installed at a cost of Rs. 10 lakhs. Apart from this Rs.3 lakh was spent on construction of Panchayat House, Rs.4.5 lakh on construction of playground under MNREGA and Rs.4 lakh on roads to various Deras.
The development of Government School as a Smart School at Village Nurpur Lubana, which has been selected for the ‘Bal Mittartai Puraskar” has created a conducive environment for the education and all round development of the children.
Apart from this, successful implementation of government schemes for the welfare of children, organization of education as well as other social and sports activities were also important in the selection of the award.
It may be recalled that the selected Panchayats would be given these awards by the Prime Minister on the occasion of National Panchayati Raj Day on April 21 in New Delhi, under which an amount of about Rs. 10 lakh would be given for the development of the village.
