Amritsar, Jan 24 (Punjab Post Bureau)- 24th January is being celebrated as National Girl Child Day. The National Girl Child Day is celebrated to increase the awareness among the people about all the inequalities being faced by the girl child in the society. This initiative works towards ensuring that girls are born, loved and nurtured and grow up to become empowered citizens of this country with equal rights and opportunities. Government of India has started National Girls Child Day as a National Girls Development Mission. It helps in enhancing girls’ meaningful contribution in decision making process by active support of the parents and the community members. To celebrate this day the district administration is launching a face book page – DIWA- Dynamic & Inspiring Women of Amritsar – Her Story Her Achievements. On this page the girl/women or parents or others can share the success stories of girls/women of Amritsar. The purpose of this page is to spread achievements of Amritsar’s females and motivate others. Some stories remain untold but this page will give those words and who knows her story can be yours too. This is an addition to many steps currently taken by the district administration like sanitary napkin making project, cutting/tailoring centre etc. to promote women empowerment. District Administration really hopes for the day when women achieve such a level that there is no further need for such steps. We request all those who have such stories to actively post on this page along with pictures so that others come to know about their achievements.
On the eve of National Girls Child Day a small event was organized with the girls of Pingalwara by Deputy Commissioner and the facebook page was inaugurated by posting two differently able girls Shalu and Dolli who participated in World’s Summer Special Olympics held at Los Angeles, where Dolli won Medal in power lifting event. DC, Amritsar said that the aim of District Administration is to bring to life the untold success stories of the girls and women of Amritsar who have turned out to be achievers in the society. He told that this page shall carry the dream of these girls which got fulfilled and thus shall become inspiration for many others in times to come. He further requested all the citizens of Amritsar (Proud Parents, brothers, sisters, relatives, friends of girls and the girls themselves) to share the success stories of girls in any field like academics, sports, fashion, business etc. on this page.
