Captain’s Security Staff Misbehaves with College Security Men to Storm into Khalsa College Campus – Chhina
Amritsar, Feb 21 (Punjab Post Bureau)- Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) today reiterated that historic Khalsa College would stay as an `independent’ autonomous college and proposed Khalsa University Amritsar (KUA) will come up separately. They appealed all political parties to join hands for successful completion of the ambitious educational project of Khalsa University which will provide boost to the education and youth employment in the border areas.
KCGC President Mr. Satyajit Singh Majithia warned political leaders not to play politics on the issue which is purely educational and society-oriented. “Some of the political leaders are playing politics over the vital issue, which is unfortunate. In the heart of it, they also understand how important is the project but seemed to be misled by certain elements for political reasons’’, said Mr. Majithia in a statement issued here today. He said heritage status of the historic building will also be kept intact.
On the other hand KCGC honourary secretary Mr. Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina strongly condemned `misbehavior’ by security staff of former CM and local MP, Captain Amarinder Singh with College’s security men today when he along with some of his supporters entered the College campus unannounced and uninformed. He said Captain with his political supporters forcibly entered the college campus.
“Captain is a seasoned politician and must understand that College’s sanctity and educational atmosphere should not have been disturbed suddenly. He entered the college uninformed, without authorization which does not behave well with former CM and sitting MP“, said he adding that College security staff was slapped and keys of the gates were snatched from them to enter the premises.
Mr. Chhina stated that some leaders were playing petty politics over the issue for their vested interests. “There are lobbies and interest groups which do not want Khalsa University to be a reality. They are using the political leaders for their vested interests’’, alleged Chhina. He chided the political leaders for saying there is already Guru Nanak Dev University in the vicinity so we should not have another university. “In Delhi, the IIT and JNU share the walls and still are the topmost learning Centers of higher education. GNDU VC Dr.AS Brar himself has welcomed the new varsity’’, said Chhian adding that the UGC surveys says that country need 1700 universities by 2020 and presently there are only 770, thus more universities are required to be set up.
Mr.Chhina said the proposed University will be run by the Charitable Society which is duly elected every five year and any one individual or family grabbing the land meant for the varsity is a figment of imagination. “The land belonging to the Society can be used only for educational purpose and varsity’s affairs will be run by the bon-profit-making society, so no one individual or family can own the varsity’’, said he. He added that the KCGC, which has 124 years of experience to run educational institutions and is successfully running 12 colleges and 5 schools, qualifies all laid guidelines, rules and regulations manage the university.
