International Conference on Concept of Social Justice held at DAV College

Amritsar March 3 (Punjab Post Bureau)- The post graduate department of History, DAV College organized an International Conference on the concept of Social Justice as perceived by Mahtama Gandhi and Dr BR Ambedkar here on Thursday.

Prominent Scholars from across the county were gathered here to discuss the role of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr BR Ambedkar for advocating the social justice. Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar welcomed the keynote speaker Dr HS Dilgeer, Director, Guru Nanak Institute, Birmingham, England and other speaker Prof J.N Sinha, Associate Professor, Rajdhani College, University of Delhi, Dr PK Shukla, Fellow, Nehru Memorial Library, New Delhi. During the conference, Keynote Speaker Dr HS Dilgeer highlighted the contribution of Dr BR Ambedkar and Mahtama Gandhi on the concept of social justice. He also discussed the Gandhi views on Caste system and inter-caste system, Gandhi and Dalit Controversy and Ambedkar’s view on Varna and Caste system. Other Speakers also laid down the emphasis on importance of social Justice. Video presentations were also screened during the conference.

The technical session were also organized under the supervision Dr Vishav Bandhu, Head of the department of History, which were chaired by Dr Sukhwant Singh, Department of History, GNDU Amritsar, Dr SS Sohal, Chairperson, Ghadar Movement, GNDU and Dr Harbinder Kaur, Principal, Shahzada Nanda College Amritsar. Taking about the Conference, Dr Vishav Bandhu said that the untouchables were the ignored and isolated class of the hindu community. On the basis of birth, Hindus are divided in to four Varnas, Brahmin, Kashitrya, Vaishya and Shudra, barring untouchables who are considered nonexistent. Both Gandhi and Ambedkar worked to eradicate this evil. He said that the purpose of the conference was to highlight the efforts of both leaders and to enlighten the present generation about its utility in the present context. Principal Dr Rajesh Kumar also appreciated the efforts of history department for organizing international conference on such a relevant issue. On this occasion, Prof Shilpi Seth, Prof Amit Syal, Prof Babusha, Prof Manjeet Singh, Himani, Monika and Harkeerat were also present.
